Opal D. Oakes Shavers

SHAVERS, OPAL D. OAKES Opal D. Oakes Shavers, age 79, of Woodway died Wednesday, January 7, 2003 at a local nursing home. Graveside services will be at 1pm Friday, January 9 at Oakes Cemetery in Fair Oakes, Texas in Limestone County with Rev. Steve Ramsdell of First United Methodist Church officiating. Mrs. Shavers was born February 1, 1924 in Donie, Texas to Thomas Wesley and Myrtie Pernicia Reed Oakes. She married Fred Robert Shavers, Jr. August 25, 1946, in Waco. She retired from Sears in 1986 after 36 years in the audit department, where she had many dear friends who meant the world to her. In her retirement, she enjoyed her family and friends greatly, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Six brothers, two sisters, and one granddaughter preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Fred Robert Shavers, Jr., sons, Fred Robert Shavers, III and wife, Diane of Woodway and Alvis Wesley Shavers and wife, Donna of Scurry, Texas; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Brian and Kevin Shavers of Woodway and Christina, Alyson and Alan Shavers of Scurry; brothers, Paul Reed Oakes of Waco; and sister, Nellie Corine Glispin of El Campo. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Royal Manor for their compassionate hearts and their loving kindness.
