Opal Farney Tucker

August 26, 1923 — March 15, 2002

TUCKER, OPAL FARNEY Opal Farney Tucker, age 78 of Waco, died Friday, March 15, 2002 at a local hospital. Services will be held at 11:30AM Monday, March 18 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. with Rev. Robert Wallace and Rev. Bill Schibler officiating. Visitation with the family will be 3-5 PM Sunday, March 17, 2002 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Mrs. Tucker was born August 26, 1923 in Golinda, Texas. She was a graduate of Waco High School, Class of 1942. She assisted in organizing the Waco District Dental Society in 1954 where she held various offices and served as president on three different intervals. Mrs. Tucker was a certified dental assistant. She retired from the Veterans Medical Center in Waco on September 9, 1981 with 30 years of service. Pursuing her career in dentistry, she completed numerous educational courses in Washington, D.C., St. Louis, MO and Houston, TX. She was on the Advisory Committee in 1967 at Texas State Technical College for the Dental Assistant Program after retiring from the V.A. Medical Center. She was then made an honorary member of the T.S.T.C. Advisory Committee. She was a member of First Baptist Church Golinda. Survivors include her husband, Ross E. Tucker of Waco; sister, Kathryn Radle of Golinda; brother, Loyd B. Farney and wife Toodie of Golinda; nieces and nephews, Linda Nell Radle, Donna Sue Rohan, Doyle Wayne Farney and Paul David Farney; great nieces and nephews, Cristie Thigpen, Stacy Griffin, Pamela East, James Edward Rohan, Shaylene Farney and Amber Radle; great-great nephews, Tyler Thigpen, Landon and Daniel East. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Agnes Farney. Pallbearers will be Paul David Farney, Doyle Wayne Farney, Bob Mackie, Ted Mackie, Stanley Birkes, John Schrader, Eddy Rohan and Vernon Bob Brown. Honorary pallbearers are the Deacons of First Baptist Church Golinda, Hershel Gamble, Harry Thompson, Bryan Beachamp, Dennis Birkes, Thomas Herrington, Jerry Alsip, Loyd Farney, the Dental Staff at the V.A. Medical Center, Mr. J.L. Brannon, Dr. George Henderson, Dr. E.T. Bangert, The Dental Assistant Program at T.S.T.C., Department Chairman and Staff and Past Director Margaret Dickenson. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Golinda. WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
