Orman E. "Bly" Blythe October 14, 1921 - May 8, 2015 O. E. "Bly" Blythe, a long time Waco resident, passed away peacefully in Temple, Texas, Friday, May 8, 2015. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church at Badger Ranch with Pastor Jim Menke officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 12 Noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church at Badger Ranch. Bly was born October 14, 1921, in Lisman, Kentucky, to A. B. and Sally Taylor Blythe, one of eight siblings. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Watkins, on May 29, 1943. Soon after he left to serve his country as a staff sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, stationed in the Philippines. He found his true calling in 1955, when he joined the Waco Police Department, where he would remain for 30 years, serving as a patrolman, dispatcher, jailer, and later as a chief detective in the fraud division. Sgt. Bly also provided security for Presidents, Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, many weddings and countless youth dances. He was a man of many talents: excellent cook, avid fisherman, great gardener, and "Mr. Fixit" to his neighbors. He never met a stranger, always had a twinkle in his eye and a joke waiting to be told. He was most proud of the family that he and Dorothy created. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Dorothy; parents, A.B. and Sally Blythe; and son-in-law, David G. Oldham, M.D. He is survived by son, Steve Blythe and wife, Cindy, of Salado; daughter, Carolyn Oldham of Plano; and grandchildren, Melissa Chaiken and husband, Rob, of Plano; Brett Blythe and wife, Allie Neill, of Washington, D.C.; Heather Ward and husband, Phil, of Moffat; Jeff Oldham and wife, Carolyn, of Lexington, Kentucky; and Jennifer Herve and husband, Bruce, of Austin. He also has eight great grandchildren, Gage and Laci Ward, Spencer and Isabella Chaiken, Eleanor, Noah and Henry Oldham, and Graham Herve. They all loved their "Paw Paw" and feel blessed to have had him in their lives. He is also survived by his sister, Nat Shoemaker, of Hammond, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews. Our family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to the staff of Temple Meridian Health Center for the care and compassion shown during his stay there. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to www.woundedwarriorproject.org or to Trinity Lutheran Church at Badger Ranch, 2 Ritchie Road, Woodway TX 76712.
