Patricia G Vaughn

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Patricia Gillenwater Vaughn, March 17, 2024, in Waco, Texas.


Born on July 14, 1944, in Amarillo, Texas, Patricia was the daughter of D.O. Gillenwater and Mary Crews Gillenwater. Patricia's early life journey took her from Illinois and western Nebraska to Waco, Texas, where she settled in November 1960. She graduated from Waco High School in 1962 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biology & Geology from Baylor University in 1968. She lived in Dallas, Texas for 10 years, from 1971 until 1982, when she moved to Temple, and finally moved back to Waco in 1992.


Her professional path was marked by dedication and service. She worked at Community State Bank and First Federal Savings & Loan in Dallas before joining Temple ISD. From August 12, 1990, until December 31, 2018, Patricia served diligently at the Waco VA Medical Center across various departments.


Patricia's commitment extended beyond her professional life. She was an active member of Austin Avenue United Methodist Church since 1961 and devoted her time to the Boy Scouts of America. Additionally, she pursued martial arts, achieving a black belt (1st degree) in 1994.


She was preceded in death by her parents, D.O. Gillenwater and Mary Crews Gillenwater; her grandmother, Cecil Gregory Crews; and her brother, Gregory Gillenwater.


Patricia is survived by her sons, George Gregory “Rusty” Vaughn of Houston, and Scott Alan Vaughn of Houston; granddaughters, Amelia “Mia” Vaughn of Houston, and Lexie Vaughn of Houston; sister-in-law, Margie Gillenwater of Hewitt; her niece, Chelsie Gillenwater of Waco; her nephews, Christopher Gillenwater and wife Cindy of Killeen, Cory Gillenwater of Hewitt, as well as Colton Gillenwater and wife Grace of Hewitt.
