WIENANDT, PATRICIA Patricia Trachsel Wienandt, 80, of Waco, who was active in the Waco music community for more than four decades, died Thursday, October 17, 2002 in a local nursing home. Services will be held at 2pm Monday, October 21 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with The Rev. Jason Maddox officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial North. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8pm Sunday, October 20 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mrs. Wienandt, a violist, was a founding member of the Waco Symphony Orchestra and performed with the organization from its inception in 1962 until a few years ago. She also was a former part-time faculty member of the Baylor University School of Music and later, an editor in the publishing division of Word, Inc. Mrs. Wienandt was born Sept. 14, 1922, in Iowa City, Iowa, graduating as valedictorian of her high school class in 1940. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1944 and studied at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia before returning to the University of Iowa, where she earned a master’s degree in music. Mrs. Wienandt also worked with the U.S. Navy’s sonar lab in California during World War II. In 1950, she married Elwyn A. Wienandt. Dr. Wienandt, retired dean of Baylor’s Graduate School of Music, died in 1993. She also was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Wienandt. In addition to her musical pursuits, Mrs. Wienandt was an avid tennis player and fan and enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and traveling. A member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, she also was deeply involved in theological study and enjoyed singing in the church choir for many years. She is survived by a sister, Annette Teeters of Scottsdale, Arizona; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher Wienandt and Beverly Bundy of Fort Worth; daughter and son-in-law, Linda Wienandt and Tracey Davis of Abilene; four grandchildren, Meredith Gandy, Allison Gandy and Joe Wienandt, all of Fort Worth, and Melissa Davis of Abilene; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Christopher Wienandt, Tracey Davis, Robert H. Young, Floyd Thatcher, Samuel Simpson, and Richard Shanley. Memorials may be made to the Dr. Elwyn A.
