Patsy Ruth Harvey Melton passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017 in Waco, Texas. A graveside service will be 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, at Oakwood Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church. Rev. Jonathan Grant will officiate. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 10, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Patsy was born on September 6, 1925 in Hillsboro, Texas and was the first-born daughter of William A. and Grace (Kitchens) Harvey. She was educated in the schools of Waco and graduated from Waco High School in 1942. Patsy later attended Baylor University. She was a homemaker and also devoted many years to the work of Woman’s Missionary Union through her home church, Calvary Baptist Church and Woman’s Missionary Union of Texas and Waco Baptist Association (now known as Waco Baptist Regional Network) in Waco. Patsy was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for 80 years. Patsy was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Barbara Jean Harvey Wallace. She is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, D.G. Melton; two sons, Dr. Larry B. Melton and wife Barbara, and Richard A. Melton and wife Ann; a granddaughter, Kathleen Michelle Melton; a sister, Billie Dean Harvey Canterbury; a special friend of over 75 years, Jean Herring; many cousins as well as many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Tom Purdy, David Lintz, Richard McCall, Tim Smith, James Hitt, and Jonathan Grant. Memorial gifts may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund or to Compassion Ministries.
