Patti Ann Marshall Cannon January 16, 1924 - March 3, 2012 Patti Ann Marshall Cannon of Huntsville, Texas, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012. Burial will be 9:30 a.m., Saturday, March 10, at Waco Memorial Park. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m., at Lakewood Christian Church with the Rev. Jerry Kirkpatrick officiating. Mrs. Cannon will be in state Thursday and Friday, March 8 and 9, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Patti was the eldest child of Mitchell and Erma Howard Marshall. She was born January 16, 1924 in Hill County, Texas and passed at the Elmcroft Center in Conroe, Texas on March 3, 2012. Her parents moved to Lamesa, TX in the late 20s where Patti started school in 1930. The family moved back to Hill County in 1931. Patti attended Atchison and Revier and Union Bluff Community schools and then Hillsboro High School, graduating in 1940. She successfully passed a Civil Service Test and started to work for the Office of Price Administration in Fort Worth, Texas in 1942. Patti and Leighton F. Cannon started dating in 1941, were engaged for two and a half years, and married on August 8, 1944. Leighton was in the Army Air Corps at this time WWII and Patti went with him until the birth of their first child, Rodney M. Cannon on August 29, 1945. Leighton worked for the Texas Department of Transportation after the war ended and the family moved to Clifton, TX where their daughter, Karon Leigh Cannon, was born June 15, 1949. A second daughter, Angela Beth, was born prematurely on July 16, 1954, and lived only a few hours. Patti was a homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and "Mama Cannon" to many young families who were in their church and far away from their own families. She "adopted" them and they called her "Mama Cannon." Patti was a member of Lakewood Christian Church of Waco, and a former member of Hamilton Christian Church and the Central Christian Church in Hillsboro, Texas. She taught Sunday school classes, both children and adult, sang in the chancel choirs and played for a number of years in the Lakewood Handbell Ensemble. She was active in CWF and LOAF and was an Elder Emeritus. She valued her family, friends, neighbors, and "adopted" families. She especially loved the church family. She was active in all her children's school activities, especially band, and served in the PTA in Clifton, Texas. She loved to do handiwork and made many crocheted and embroidered gifts for church festivals, friends and family. Preceding her in death were her parents, Mitchell and Erma Marshall; her husband, Leighton F. Cannon; the infant daughter, Angela Beth; sisters, Sara Blanche Malone and Louise Schmidt. She is survived by her son, Rodney M. Cannon, and wife, Judith M. Cannon; her daughter, Karon Cannon Glass and husband Cecil Glass; grandchildren, Leigh Ann Hancock, Wade Lear, Laura Cannon and husband, Ryan Fisher, and Lisa Cannon; six great grandchildren, Jeffrey King, Grant King, Price Sanders, Zoe Sanders, Carter Lear, and Josephina Fisher; also, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces/nephews, and a host of beloved friends.
