Paul Reeves

November 6, 1914 — March 18, 2004

REEVES, PAUL Paul Reeves, age 89 of Hewitt and formerly of Hurley, New Mexico, died Thursday, March 18, 2004 following an illness. A memorial service will be held at 3:30pm Saturday, March 20 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Rev. Jim Gray officiating. Mr. Reeves was born November 6, 1914 in Haskell County, Texas, the eighth child of twelve born to William Osborne and Maude Reeves. He attended school in the Punkin Center area of West Texas. Mr. Reeves was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Corps, attaining the rank of Corporal. Mr. Reeves married Jean Martin November 18, 1941 and they immediately moved to Hurley. He played semi-professional baseball for the West Texas-New Mexico League and later for Kennecott Copper Corporation. He was a master welder for the corporation and retired after thirty-two years in 1975. During his employment he never took a sick day. Mr. Reeves was a member of the Boilermakers Union of America. He was also active in the Southern Baptist Church for almost fifty years and was most recently a member of First Baptist Church of Woodway attending a senior adult Sunday school class. Mr. Reeves was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Kenneth Paul, three sisters and six brothers. Surviving him are his wife, Jean, of the family home; daughter, Kay Furman and son-in-law, Glenn of Harris Creek; grandsons, K. Blaine Furman and wife, Shawna of Waco and Barry Furman of College Station; granddaughter, Trista Orsak and husband, Ryan of Littleton, Colorado; brothers, H. B. Reeves of Auburn, California and Don Reeves of Jal, New Mexico, six sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. The family thanks Dr. Donald Stewart and his staff and Dr. Steve Raley and his staff for their compassionate and professional care during Mr. Reeves’ last year. Memorials may be made to Woodway First United Methodist Church Building Fund, Baptist Children’s Home in Portales, New Mexico or charity of choice.
