Paul W. Lindloff, Jr.

July 14, 1921 — August 6, 2014

Paul W. Lindloff, Jr. July 14, 1921 August 6, 2014 Paul W. Lindloff, Jr., 93, longtime Waco resident, died peacefully in his sleep on August 6, 2014. He had been a resident of Ridgecrest Retirement Center since 2011. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 9, at First United Methodist Church of Waco, 4901 Cobbs Drive. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. He was born in Ranger, Texas on July 14, 1921, to Paul W. and Pearl King Lindloff and moved to Waco early in childhood. One of the "Greatest Generation," Paul's life story has a familiar arc. Born into a household centered around family and the church and surviving the Great Depression, he served his country in World War II. Afterwards he returned to Waco and Fern. In the summer of 1942, Paul met Fern at church camp in Glen Rose. They married in July of 1943, and she was by his side every step of the way for the rest of his life, with the possible exception of the skies over Normandy. They raised two sons, mostly in Houston, but also in other towns where his academic career led him. Paul graduated from Waco High School and received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Baylor. He was awarded a PhD in Accounting by the University of Texas. After a brief career in public accounting in Waco, he began a teaching career at the University of Houston. Professor Lindloff also taught at the University of Texas, Duke University, the University of South Alabama, Texas A& M University, Sam Houston State University and Houston Baptist University. Upon retirement, he returned with Fern in 1987 to his home town, Waco, where he lived until his death. The last 27 years of Paul's life was filled with tennis, travel, family, friends and his many other interests, including Mission Waco, the Stephen Ministries, Emmaus walks, First United Methodist Church and the Odell Dudley Sunday School class. Last but not least, he loved reaching out to the many people who enjoyed hearing his accordion at nursing homes, social occasions or in impromptu jam sessions. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Fern Hammack Lindloff, of Waco; two sons, Gary and wife, Pam, of Shawnee, Oklahoma and Keith and wife, Patti, of Houston; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many wonderful friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Mission Waco, to First Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our "Memorial Guestbook" at www.WHBfamily.com.
