Peggy Ann Hughes

May 18, 1958 — January 25, 2022

Peggy Ann Hughes, age 63, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022, while surrounded by her family whom she dearly loved. A service will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at Trinity at Badger Ranch, 2 Ritchie Rd, Woodway, followed by a graveside service at 3:00 pm at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, 2939 FM 1105, Georgetown. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 pm Monday, January 31, 2022, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd, Waco. Peggy was born on May 18, 1958, in Georgetown, Texas to Erwin and Doris (Bethke) Bamsch. Baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Walburg, Texas, Peggy consistently lived out the golden rule of treating others the way you want to be treated. She attended Zion Lutheran School and graduated from Jarrell High School. Peggy married James Larry Hughes on February 21, 1976, at Zion and settled in Waco, Texas in 1991. Known as a hard worker, Peggy worked at local banks in Walburg and Georgetown and helped manage Jim’s Krispy Fried Chicken in Mexia and Waco. She spent 22 years working at Lowe’s in Waco, where she was mainly known as “work mom” by many co-workers that she called friends. Peggy’s focus was always her family. She was happiest when loved ones gathered to share a meal, play games and tell jokes, which then she would always belt out that unforgettable laugh. Affectionately known as Grammy, her smile and joy usually came from the time she spent with her four grandchildren. Peggy never wanted to spend money on herself, but she was always eager to bless her family and others that she knew were in need. Although 15 years of battling kidney disease was difficult and challenging for her, she never complained. Even on days when her strength was low, if someone came to visit or call, she would put on a happy face and focus on how they were doing. She loved the way Jesus loved, and set an example for her family to follow. We are thankful for the adventures and memories we have with her, and the opportunity to see her again in Heaven. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, James Wendell Hughes; mother-in-law, Ruby Fairchild; and brother-in-law, Rick Hughes. She is survived by her husband, James Larry Hughes; son, James Edmond Hughes and wife, Erin; grandchildren, Kristen, Adelyn, Caleb and Hannah Hughes; brothers, Darrell Bamsch and wife, Charlotte, Douglas, and wife, MaryAnn, Steven, and wife Cindy, Stuart, and wife, Geneva; brother-in-law, Steven Hughes and wife, Shara; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Kidney Fund. https://www.kidneyfund.org/ The family invites you to leave a message or memory on our “Tribute Wall” at www.WHBfamily.com.
