Peggy Sue Callaway

March 11, 1937 — January 21, 2025

Peggy Sue Callaway, age 87, passed away January 21, 2025, at St. Anthony’s Care Center. A family graveside service will be scheduled at a later date. 

Peggy was born on March 11, 1937, in McAllen, Texas, where she grew up and attended high school. She also attended Texas Woman’s University. Peggy met her future husband, Jim Callaway, in McAllen, where they were later married. 

Peggy’s career began as a substitute teacher in public schools. She completed her career as the Assistant Director of the Hurst Public Library, retiring after 18 years of dedicated service. She loved all sports, especially watching her sons compete. After her retirement, she spent many years supporting the Texas Rangers in a voluntary greeting position. Peggy was a member of the First Methodist Church of Hurst and also volunteered with the Hurst Police Department alongside her husband, working a watchtower to help prevent parking lot thefts. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Horace Jones; mother, Blanche Jones; son, Mark Callaway; and husband, Jim Callaway. 

Survivors include her brother, Jerry Jones, and his wife, Marianne; her son, Darren Callaway Sr., and his wife, Sharon; her son, Curtis Callaway, and his wife, Dawn; her son, Kent Callaway, and his wife, D’Ann; and her daughter-in-law, Tyrene Callaway. Her grandchildren include DJ Callaway and his wife, Courtney; Collin Callaway and his wife, Morgan; Jordan Callaway; Conner Callaway and his wife, Kristen; Taylor Callaway; Courtney Ball and her husband, Jonathan; and Brenden Callaway. Great-grandchildren include Camdyn, Charley, McKinley, Tripp, Chanlee, Hallie, Addilyn, and Austin. Peggy is also survived by her loving toy Schnauzer, Zeva. 

Memorials may be made to Fuzzy Friends Rescue Animal Shelter of Waco, TX, located at 6321 Airport Rd., Waco, TX 76708.
