Peggy Morris Burrows September 5, 1925 April 8, 2009 After a long illness, Peggy Morris Burrows, 83, died April 8th, 2009. On April 25th, she will return at last to the place of her birth, San Saba, to rest with loved ones. A memorial service for all friends and family will be held in the Christus Chapel at St. Catherine Center on American Plaza Dr. at Hwy 6 in Waco, Texas, on April 25th, at 2:00 pm. Please call Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home for directions to the chapel. The service will be conducted by Suzanne Smith, M.Div., Chaplain for Providence Hospice. Relatives and friends are also welcome at a luncheon to be served prior to the service at 3324 Austin Avenue at 12:00 pm. Born on the 5th of September, 1925, to the late Lila and William Terrence Morris, Peggy lived in more than 20 different cities both in the US and abroad during her lifetime. Peggy attended 10 schools in Texas as she was growing up before graduating early from Nacogdoches High School in 1942 and going on to attend Stephen F. Austin State College. In October of that same year she married her school sweetheart, Carl S. Burrows, Jr., before he left to serve his country in the war. The end of World War II led the couple to careers in theatre management and then banking. In 1970 Peggy and Carl retired to Guadalajara Zapopan where they enjoyed the climate and the relaxed pace of life until a desire to be closer to family led them back to Austin in 1975. 1981 brought them to the small town of Bastrop where they bought a historic home, and Peggy opened an antique shop. In 1987 the couple returned to Nacogdoches to care for Peggy's mother. Another move to Waco to be near family again found them bidding a fond farewell to their dear friends in Nacogdoches in 2005. Peggy was the family historian--she remembered all the details! She was a longtime member of the DAR and the family "glamour girl." Her loved ones will always remember her as the "life of the party"our lives will be dull without her. Peggy is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Carl S. Burrows, Jr., of Waco; brother, Terry Morris and his wife, Nell, of Beaumont; nephew, John Linda Baker of Waco, nieces, Ann Joe Emmert of Bastrop, Lezly Joe Seijas of Highland Beach, FL, Lila Ron Parker of Weatherford, Jennifer Morris of Auburn, NY, and Amy Richard Beech of Houston. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Louise Baker Moreland and Jeanette June Braun. Peggy's family wishes to thank Providence Hospice and all her caregivers at St. Catherine Center for their kind and compassionate care these last months. We would also especially like to thank Alta Leath for her faithful visits and thoughtful efforts at making the long months in hospice easier to bear, as well as Linda Baker, who truly deserves a halo for all that she has done for the family. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Providence Hospice of Waco, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America, or the American Cancer Society. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our "Memorial Guestbook" at www.WilkirsonHatchBailey.com.
