Phyllis "Jeanne" Ware passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023. A Graveside Service to honor her life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Oakwood Cemetery, 2124 S 5th St, Waco, Texas, 76706.


Jeanne was born on July 14, 1950, in Memphis, Texas, to Preach and Margaret Weaver. In 1968, she graduated from high school in Jonesboro, Texas. For nearly 40 years, she faithfully served as a custodian at Emmanuel Baptist Church, while also dedicating many years as a librarian for Waco schools. Additionally, she devoted 17 years as a Bond Clerk at McLennan County jail before retiring, and later took on roles as a substitute teacher and crossing guard for Waco Independent Schools. Jeanne had an endearing habit of creating new rules in board games and enjoyed playing them with her family and friends. She cherished spending quality time with her grandkids, whether taking leisurely walks around the neighborhood or enthusiastically supporting them at every event, ensuring they were never without snacks. In times of need, she promptly made emergency food runs to the store when her grandkids called saying they were hungry. Jeanne's dedication to her involvement with Emmanuel Baptist Church was unwavering, she served passionately in various activities, including teaching English and maintaining the beloved food pantry.


She was preceded in death by her parents, L.T. (Preach) and Margaret Weaver; her husband, Larry Ware; her brothers David Weaver, and Max Weaver; stepdaughters, Linda Torres and Marsha Barabas; and also, Maynard the grand dog.


Jeanne is survived by her children, Greg Ware, Amy York (Allen); grandchildren, Dax Robertson, Devin York (Kenzie), Danica York; her great-grandchildren, Everly Robertson and Tucker York; her sisters, Carole Clark, Ann Kennedy, Barbara Todd; her sister-in-law, Dee Ann Weaver; her brother and sister-in-law Ted and Kitty Ware; sons in law Peter Torres (Linda) and Jeff Barabas (Marsha); as well as numerous nieces and nephews; her extended family, including, Kim Miller, Grant Miller, and Evan Miller; and a multitude of close friends and family that she loved dearly; finally, her beloved sidekick, Sam.
