Q. Z. Valentine

Valentine, Q.Z. Q.Z. Valentine, age 86, attorney and municipal judge for the City of Waco for over 32 years, passed away Monday, November 4, 2002. The memorial service is 10:30 Saturday, November 9, at Lake Shore United Methodist Church, Rev. Pamela Dykehouse officiating. Arrangements are through Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Judge Valentine was born in Waco to Franklin and Bertha Valentine. He attended Baylor and received his law degree from Cumberland University. In 1940 he married Genevieve Gibbs and lived in Waco until WWII. During the war he was sent to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, then to the Avon Signal Depot in Lexington, Kentucky. He returned to Waco after the war and practiced law until his retirement. Judge Valentine served as City Commissioner and Mayor Pro-Tem before his appointment to Waco’s Municipal Court. On December 11, 1986 he was honored by the Municipal Court Association for his 32 years of dedicated and distinguished service. He was the longest serving municipal judge in Texas state history. Judge Valentine also served many surrounding communities in the capacity of city attorney or municipal judge. Judge Valentine was a dedicated member of Lake Shore United Methodist Church serving as board member for many years. In addition to his church activities, he was a member of the McLennan County Bar Association, State Bar of Texas, Sons of the Republic, Sons of the American Revolution, and Sons of the Confederacy. He was a lifetime member of the J.H. Gurley Lodge#337, Waco Commander of Knights Templar, and the Scottish Rite and Karem Shrine Bodies. His numerous memberships included the Henry Lee Society, the Texas State Genealogy Association, the National Genealogy Society, and the National Genealogy Association. He also was a supporter of the Waco McLennan County Library. Judge Valentine and his wife enjoyed many friendships, traveled extensively and supported the arts throughout the state. His parents and two younger brothers preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Genevieve Valentine and daughter, Valorie Jean Valentine Smith. Other survivors include, his granddaughters Rochelle Dearman, Robin Wiggins and Kippy Cooper, and their husbands John Dearman and Jeff Wiggins. Family members include, Mike Cooper, sister-in-law LaValta Fowler, and brother-in-law Edwin E. Fowler. His great grandchildren are Alexandra Dearman, Grayson Dearman, Ethan Wiggins and Drake Cooper. Other Family members are nephew Eddie Fowler II, wife Tara and daughters Megan and Amanda. Memorials may be made to Providence Hospice or a favorite charity.
