RAY LAWSON Ray Lawson, 75, of Hewitt, died Friday, February 8, 2002 at his residence. Services will be 10:30am Monday, February 11 at Central Christian Church with Dr. Steven Mansen officiating. Burial with Masonic rites by Waco Masonic Funeral Committee will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 3:00-5:00pm Sunday in the Garden Room of WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mr. Lawson was born January 27, 1927 in Waco to Ed Lawson, Sr. & Allie Belle Kincannon Lawson. After graduation from Bruceville-Eddy High School, he joined the Air Force and served in the Philippines following WWII. He owned & operated Lawson Insulation Company for many years. In 1970 he married Julie Ledbetter in Waco. They built their home on their ranch in Riesel and raised Santa Gertrudis cattle until moving to Hewitt in 1998. Mr. Lawson retired as a supervisor at the main post office in Waco in 1990. He was a member of Central Christian Church where he served as Deacon. He was Past Master & 50-year member of Fidelis Masonic Lodge #1127, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason & a member of Karem Shrine. He was a past Captain of the Karem Rangers, past Vice-President of the Texas Shrine Horse Patrol Association, past Commander of the Legion of Honor & past chairman of the Transportation Committee. He was also a member of the Royal Order of Jesters & the Hillbilly Clan. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ed Lawson, Jr., a sister, Wille Mae Bill Huber & an infant daughter, Carrie Belle Lawson. Survivors: wife, Julie of Hewitt; son, Robert Lawson & wife Pauline of Grand Prairie; daughter, Jean Williams & husband Wayne of Gatesville; step-son, Rick Ledbetter & wife Pat of Valley Mills; step-son, Scott Ledbetter of Tomball; 8 grandchildren, one of whom, Andrea Hoffman of Huntingburg, Indiana was also a foster child who lived with him many years; 9 great grandchildren; nephew, Charles Huber of Woodway, 3 nieces, Betty Bryant of Woodway, Barbara Clark of Dallas & Tona Sharp of Corsicana. Pallbearers will be members of Karem Rangers. Honorary pallbearers will be Karem Legion of Honor. Memorials may be made to Shrine Hospitals for Children, 400 Karem Circle, Waco, Texas 76712.
