Raymond E. Gilliam March 8, 1923 - July 10, 2007 Raymond E. Gilliam of Waco passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at the age of 84. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 13, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Rev. Ron Durham officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 12, at Wilkirson Hatch Bailey Garden Room. Raymond was born March 8, 1923 in Temple to J. D. and Maudie Mae Moore Gilliam. The family moved to Waco when Raymond was a child. He attended Waco Schools, graduating from Waco High in 1941. Shortly after graduation, he entered the U.S. Army and served until the end of WWII. His service with the 389th AAA AW BN took him to New Guinea, Dutch East Indies and the Philippines. At the end of WWII, he was discharged from the Army and returned to Waco where he began working for the U.S. Post Office as a letter carrier. His postal career spanned 36 years. During this time, he served two terms as president of The National Association of Letter Carriers, Branch 404. In 1947 Raymond married Louise Wilson, and at the time of his death, they had been married for 59 years. Raymond was a member of Columbus Ave Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. He found great joy and satisfaction in being a member of the CABC Sanctuary Choir, and Senior Adult Choir and the Baylor Senior Adult Choir. Music was such an important part of his life. He is survived by his wife, Louise Gilliam; daughter, Marsha Krause and husband, Curt; and son, Dennis Gilliam and wife, Marsha. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Brandon Gilliam, Marisa Gilliam, Kara Krause Fields and husband, Shane and Austin Krause; three great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
