Raymond Herman Charles Teske, Sr.

January 30, 1917 — March 23, 2005

Raymond H. C. Teske, Sr., loving and beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 23, 2005. Services will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Norm Steinke officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 pm, Monday, March 28, at the funeral home. Mr. Teske is the son of Herman and Alva born Lundmark Teske, he was born in Chicago, Illinois, on January 30, 1917. He was baptized as an infant and later confirmed by Dr. Oswald Hoffman at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. He was a member of the 1938 Wright College Championship football team. In 1940 he applied and was accepted into the Chicago Black Horse Regiment 106th Illinois National Guard. The regiment was federalized November 25, 1940 and departed for Louisiana. He served with the 106th Cavalry until receiving an honorable discharge on September 15, 1945. Sgt. Teske entered Normandy on June 29, 1944 at Utah Beach and served 284 days in front-line combat with B Troop, 121st Cavalry Squadron Mecz, 106th Cavalry Group earning four bronze battle stars. On July 3, 1941 he met Annie Marjorie Pohl in Monroe, Louisiana. They were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Monroe, Louisiana on January 15, 1942 and were blessed with 63 years of loving marriage. Of this union they were blessed with four children. He moved to Waco in 1949 and worked as a pressman at the Waco Tribune-Herald until retirement in 1981. He served for many years as secretary-treasurer of the Waco Printing Pressmen and Assistants’ Union No. 88. He graduated from Baylor University with a BA degree in 1971 and was a Life Member of the Alumni Association. Beginning in 1950, he attended Baylor football games every chance he had and was life-long devoted fan. He had great pride in Waco and was committed to serving his community. He arranged for donations to purchase and install the first lights at the Northern Little League Ballpark. He was a longtime leader of Boy Scouts mentoring the lives of many young men. He loved hunting, fishing, and reading. A person of powerful and unwavering Christian faith he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and formerly a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. He devoted his life to serving his church and Lord holding many offices. He was blessed to receive communion the afternoon before he entered into eternal life. He is survived by his beloved wife, MarjorieCode Name #13; four children, Dr. Raymond Teske, Jr. and wife Jane of Huntsville, Rev. Paul Teske Commander USN ret. and wife Rivers of Westport, CT, Nancy Henry and husband Bud of Copper Canyon, and Susan Strakos and husband William of Waco; six grandchildren, Raymond Teske III and wife Cindy of Spring Branch, John Paul Teske of Austin, Tara Teske of Highland Park, Marcus Teske and wife Jamie of Spring, Paul Teske II and wife Audrey of Naples, FL, and Jordan Teske of Washington, D.C.; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Teske of Highland Park and Riley Elizabeth Teske of Spring Branch; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Edward and Joy Pohl of Estes Park, CO; nephew, John C. Pohl and family, Seattle; niece, Lyn Pohl and husband James McGarry, Carlisle, MA. Pallbearers will be Mr. Teske’s grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be The Honorable George Allen, Captain Scotty Pegues, Ben Strakos, Randall Toups and Bill Becker. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff and friends at St. Catherine’s. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
