Rev. Daniel White August 28, 1927 – May 11, 2007 Daniel Raburn White August 28, 1927 – May 11, 2007 Rev. Daniel Raburn White, retired missionary, passed away Friday, May 11, 2007 in Waco. Services will be at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. David Shuttlesworth officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Dan was born August 28, 1927 on a farm in rural Mesquite, Texas to Charles H. White and Inez White. When he was in elementary school the family moved to Waco where he also attended junior high school and graduated from Waco High School in 1946. He was a proud member of the 1945 Waco High state championship team, playing guard. He joined the U.S. Navy in February 1946 and served on the USS Kermit Roosevelt ARG16 until December 1947. It was during these years that he received his call into full-time ministry while attending Olivet Baptist Church in Honolulu, Hawaii. He returned to Waco to pursue his studies at Baylor University, the beginning of a life-long love of the Green and Gold. He married Frieda Barbara Bryson on December 23, 1950. He received a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University in 1953. He and Frieda moved to Louisiana where he pursued his ministerial studies at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. From 1953 to 1960, he served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. During this time, he also served as chaplain with the Louisiana National Guard. In 1960, Dan and Frieda were called into full-time service with the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board. They lived one year in San Jose, Costa Rica, attending language school. They arrived in Madrid, Spain in July 1962 where Dan served as interim pastor of the Immanuel Baptist Church. During their early years in Spain, Dan and Frieda also served in the cities of Murcia and Alicante. In 1968, they moved to the Canary Islands, serving the Lord in churches on the islands of Tenerife, Gran Canaria and La Palma. In 1973, he obtained a master’s degree in Church State studies from Baylor University. Dan and Frieda returned to Madrid and Immanuel Baptist Church in August 1978 where Dan served as pastor until their retirement from full-time missionary service in 1991. On their return to Waco after retirement, Dan became active in the community he loved. He was founding president of the Brookview Neighborhood Association. He taught the Downtown Bible Class from 1994 to 2006. In 1995, Waco Masonic Lodge #92 honored him with the Community Builder Award. In November 1996 he was called to serve as assistant pastor at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church and ministered until December 2003. Some of his proudest achievements in recent years were his organization of the 50th Reunion of the 1945 Waco High state championship team at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and his recognition in 1999 by the Waco ISD Education Foundation as a Distinguished Alumnus. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Anecia Belle Phillips. He is survived by his wife, Frieda White; daughters, Lynne Buscaino and husband, Al of Clearwater, Florida, Mary Pyne and husband, Paul of East Greenwich, Rhode Island and Anna Buehrer and husband, Kent of Tremont, Illinois; brother, James C. White and wife, Emily of Minneapolis and their children; grandchildren, Jessica Fletcher, Natalie Fletcher, Erin Pyne, Neal Pyne, Bryson Buehrer and Sarah Buehrer. He also loved and welcomed to the family, Robert Buscaino, Peter Buscaino and Kelcy Buscaino.
