CUMMINGS, EDWARD Rev. Edward Patrick Cummings, age 83, of Lorena died Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at Temple V.A. Hospital, after a short illness. Services will be 11:30 AM Thursday, May 24th at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. with the Rev. Mike Patterson of Lorena officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be 6:30-8:00 PM Wednesday, May 23rd at the funeral home. Rev. Cummings was born October 27, 1917 in Port Arthur, TX. He married Connie Mae DuPriest February 12, 1938 in Dallas. During World War II, he served in the Army from 1942-1946 with the 38th General Hospital. This was the first General Hospital ever to be set up in a combat zone, on the island of Espirito Santo, in the New Hebrides Islands. During this time overseas, he surrendered his life to serving God as a Minister of the Gospel. Upon his return home in 1946, he publicly committed his life to Ministry at Memorial Baptist Church in Dallas. He entered Howard Payne University in the summer of 1946, and received his BA Degree in the fall of 1948. He attended Southwestern Seminary, in Fort Worth. For more than 50 years, he served as pastor of churches in Texas, including Overton Road Baptist Church and Southern Crest Baptist Church in Dallas, First Baptist Church Van, TX, Turnertown Baptist Church, First Baptist Gonzales, First Baptist De Leon and Park Temple Baptist Church in Houston. Failing health forced him to retire from pastoring full time, but he served as interim pastor in the Waco area for several years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Lorena. He will be lovingly remembered for his devotion to his country, his faithfulness to his calling in the Ministry, and his great love of his family. His parents, Pat and Gaynelle Cummings, and a grandson, Mike Cummings, preceded him in death. Survivors include: His devoted wife of 63 years: Connie DuPriest Cummings Daughter: Pamela Jones and husband, Maxey of Whitney Sons: Pat Cummings and wife, Ann of Waco Donald Cummings and wife, Sharon of Conroe Grandchildren: Rick, Donnie, Daniel, David and Amy Cummings Max Jones Great grandchildren: Erik, Leah and Abbey Cummings As well as a host of friends throughout the state. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Lorena, or Patton Baptist Church of Valley Mills. WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
