Richard B. Stanford Jr. January 7, 1927 – October 3, 2007 Richard B. Stanford, Jr., 80, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2007. Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 8, at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Dunks officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00-5:00 p.m., Sunday, October 7, in the Garden Room of Wilkirson Hatch Bailey Funeral Home. Mr. Stanford was born January 7, 1927, to Judge R.B. Stanford and Mary Edwards Stanford. He attended Waco public schools and was a 1944 graduate of Waco High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, was called to duty in 1945 and was in the occupation of Germany for one year. And later, after leaving active duty, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force Reserves He was a graduate of Texas A&M University, received a Masters degree from Columbia University and was a graduate of University of Virginia Banking School. Dick loved music – at Texas A&M he was in the Aggie Band, being head drum major his senior year. Later in Waco, he played in the Karem Shrine band for 10 years, under the direction of high school director Lyle Skinner. After 3 years as a bank examiner, he joined the First National Bank of Waco and helped organize and was Cashier of Bellmead State Bank. After 2 years in Bellmead he returned to First National Bank of Waco. At age 65 he retired after 40 years of service with FNB of Waco, now Wells Fargo Bank. He was a life-long member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church and a member of and past president of the Frank Wilson class. He was active in civic affairs, being past chairman of Waco Housing Authority and on the board of directors of Waco Lighthouse for the Blind, Waco Camp Fire Girls, Family Counseling and Children’s Welfare and the YMCA. He was a member of Waco Masonic Lodge 92, Karem Shrine Temple, and Royal Order of Jesters. Dick was a past director of the Hedonia Club and an active member of Dallas Ski Club for 20 years. He enjoyed golf, skiing, hunting, fishing, tennis and his small cattle ranch near Leroy. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Campbell Stanford; daughters, Lynn Stanford Elmore and her husband Carl of China Spring; and Jennifer Sharp of Ft. Worth; a son, Paul C. Stanford of Waco; a sister, Mary Stanford Hall of Lubbock; and Charlotte’s children; her son, Mark Shultz and wife Beth of Waco; son, Kenneth Sharp of Waco: many grandchildren and nephews and nieces. Pallbearers will be Thomas Campbell, Mark Shultz, Raymond Taylor, Ken Sharp, Carl Elmore and Homer Campbell, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Morgan Ferguson, Don Morris, Joe Hendrick, Joe Spivey, Bill Parks, Dalton Jaynes, Tommy Anderson, Lawson Clark, Floyd Miller, Talmadge Campbell, Clarence Carpenter and Bill Oliver.
