Richard Harlow "Dick" Jackson

September 3, 1939 — July 8, 2023

Richard Harlow “Dick” Jackson, beloved husband of Dora Lynn “Dodie” Jackson, was taken to his eternal home on July 8, 2023. Visitation will be held Saturday evening, July 15, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday July 16, at First Baptist Church of Waco, and a brief graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 17, at Oakwood Cemetery.

Dick’s passing was peaceful and followed a rapid decline in his health associated with the progressive effects of Alzheimer’s during his final years. Dick graduated from Hamburg High School in Hamburg, Arkansas, he was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and was a proud alumnus of Baylor University where he was employed in Personnel Benefits for most of his career. He earned his Master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, and he was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Waco, where he previously served as Business Administrator, and where he served as a deacon, a Sunday school teacher, a greeter, and in countless other capacities.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dodie Jackson; his father and mother, Howard Roy and Lola Mae Jackson; his sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Eddie Person; his sister, Ann Jackson Bachman; his father- and mother-in-law, Dan and Eddie Lee Smith; his sister-in-law, Dorothy June Smith; his sister-in-law, Virginia Crawford; and brother- and sister-in-law, Ed and Lois McGlasson.

Dick is survived by his son, Howard Jackson, along with Nicole, and their children Lauren and husband Michael Elder, Melody Jackson, Ashley Mabe, Olivia and husband Caleb Washington, Kaira Jackson, and Jonah Rash; his son, Danny and wife Suzanne; his son, Harold and wife Lorissa, and their children, Emily and husband Darius Thompson, and Paul Jackson; his brother-in-law, Gene Crawford; and a host of dearly loved great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members.

The family has designated the Richard H. and Dora L. Jackson Family/George W. Truett Theological Seminary Scholarship at Baylor University as a recipient for those who would like to send a gift in lieu of flowers. This scholarship fund was established following Dodie’s passing in 2011. In keeping with Dick’s career-long concern for integrity and responsible stewardship in the day-to-day administration of today’s churches, this fund aims to support students who are pursuing both seminary and business school studies.

The family invites you to leave a message or memory on our “Tribute Wall” at www.WHBfamily.com.
