Richard John Marty Martinelli

January 19, 1917 — February 16, 2004

MARTINELLI, MARTY Richard John Marty Martinelli, age 87 of Waco died Monday, February 16, 2004 at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, February 20, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Jimmie Johnson officiating. Private burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Martinelli was born January 19, 1917 in Toledo, Ohio. He attended schools in California and graduated from Galileo High School in San Francisco in 1934. He received a bachelor of science degree from the College of Chemistry, University of California, Berkeley in 1938. As a member of the U. S. Army Officer Reserve Corps, he was called into active duty in October, 1940 and served in the ammunition branch of the Army Ordnance Department until June, 1946. He attained the rank of Major, receiving a commendation from the Chief of Ordnance. In June 1944 he married Mary Jane Sims of Coffeyville, Kansas. They had two sons. After WWII he worked for Allis-Chalmers as a sales engineer. He then worked at Nation Gypsum in Mead, Nebraska. In 1955, he joined Phillips Petroleum Co. in McGregor as assistant manager of manufacturing. He became manager of manufacturing with succeeding owners. Mr. Martinelli was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Waco and will be remembered by his family and friends for his love of sharing his Italian heritage. The family would like to thank Providence Hospice for their care. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Angelina Tognetti Martinelli and one son, Tom Martinelli. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary Jane, son, Bill Martinelli and wife Lesley, grandchildren, Allison Martinelli Allison and husband Phillip, Brian Martinelli and wife Meagan, Brent Martinelli and wife Kim, Amy and Katie Martinelli and daughter-in-law, Jan Martinelli. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Waco, Providence Hospice or charity of choice.
