His family moved to Bastrop, where his father was superintendent of schools for many years. Bobby excelled in athletics in Bastrop, where he earned a total of 21 Athletic Letters in golf, football, basketball, tennis, and track. After graduation from high school in 1944, he entered the United States Navy and served on the light cruiser USS Topeka in the South Pacific during World War II. After discharge from the Navy in 1946, he entered Baylor University to pursue a degree in business and was a member of the Baylor Men's Golf Team. While at Baylor he met his future wife, Peggy Smith of Plainview. He graduated from Baylor University in 1951 and 3 months later they married. During his career he worked for Dow Chemical Co. and Alcoa, before going to work for the Texas Dept. of Health in Austin. In 1971, he transferred to El Paso as the regional administrator for 18 years before he retired. In March of 2000, Bob and Peggy relocated to Waco to be closer to family and Baylor University athletics. Bob was a gentle Christian man who loved his God, his family, golf and Baylor sports. He always had a fun sense of humor, one never knew what to expect, but it was sure to bring a laugh. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Virginia Crump and Shirley Ray; and granddaughter, Elisabeth Meyers. He is survived by Peggy Jo Dodson, his wife of 64 years; daughters, Carol Meyers and husband, Robert, of Waco, and Cathy Gregory of Austin; sister, Dorothy McCreary of Austin; grandsons, Michael Meyers and wife, Lorena, of McKinney, and Matthew Meyers and wife, Tinsley, of Hewitt; and granddaughter, Tracy Woods of Cedar Park; five great-grandchildren, Kyla and Caden Woods, Elisabeth and Cannon Meyers, and Josephine Meyers; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and family, too numerous to list, but not forgotten. The family would like to thank the staff of Ridgecrest and Bluebonnet Hospice for the loving and compassionate care provided to Bob as his health declined. Memorials may be made to Diabetes Association, American Heart Association or Baylor University. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our "Memorial Guestbook" at www.WHBfamily.com.
