Robert Charles Muhl July 20, 1912 - September 12, 2008 Robert Charles Muhl of Waco passed away Friday, September 12, 2008. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 16th at St. Louis Catholic Church with the Father David Leibham as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Monday September 15 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. Robert was born July 20, 1912, in Waco, to Edmond Alfred Muhl and Josephine Meyer Muhl and was a decedent of early Texas settlers. He graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and Waco High School and attended St. Mary's in San Antonio and Baylor University in Waco. While still in school, Robert worked for his father in the implement, wagon, and harness business, and in the hardware and furniture business. In 1937 he joined as partner with his sisters, Catherine and Agnes and his brother J.I. in the florist business, located in the Raleigh Hotel. His sister Teresa joined the firm one year later when Catherine married and left Waco. He always spoke of the wonderful relationship he had with his sisters and his brother in the florist business. His sister Teresa died of malignancy in 1966. His brother drowned while fishing at Lake Waco in 1968, and his sister Agnes died after a short illness in 1969. Robert enlisted in the Army Air Force December 30, 1941. He entered Officers Candidate School in June 1942 and graduated as a second lieutenant. He served twenty-two months in the European Theater of Operations and was discharged in January 1946 as a Major. He married Mary Anne Young in 1951. Robert was active in the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Northwest Waco Rotary Club, Council 1358 Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent De Paul Society, Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree and Monsignor J.J. Kearns Assembly 1109. He organized the Waco Right to Life Committee and served as president and the other offices several times. He enjoyed all kinds of hunting and was especially fond of white-tail deer hunting and dove hunting. He is survived by his wife, Mary Anne Young; nephews, J.I. Muhl, Jr., Jamie Muhl, Michael J. Muhl, James Swenke, Ernest Muenzenberger and Patrick Taggart; nieces, Mrs. Thomas Patterson, Mrs. Randy Dyer, Mrs. Susan Swenke Farrington, Miss Marion Muenzenberger and Sallie Taggart Carpp; and many cousins. Pallbearers are Randy Dyer, Jamie Muhl, J. I. Muhl, Jr., Michael Muhl, James Swenke and Tommy Patterson. Honorary pallbearers are Michael York, John Fulbright, Pat Wardlaw, Joe Flores, Ernie Muenzenberger and Patrick Taggart.
