Robert Sims March 20, 1931 - March 21, 2007 Robert Sonny Sims, 76, of Waco passed away to be with the Lord, Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at Providence Park after a long courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Chaplain Yvonne Collins and Rev. Kay Hawkins officiating. “Papa” as he was known by his family was born in Hobart, OK on March 20, 1931 to Bryan and Evelyn Sims. He attended Oklahoma State University before spending two years in the U. S. Navy. He attended Southwestern University in Weatherford, OK where he met his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Randolph. Papa worked for Sun Oil Company in Oklahoma City, Corpus Christi, Tulsa and Abilene before retiring in 1986. After retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family and helping others with mission projects and volunteer work. His gracious and giving spirit will live on in our hearts forever and will continue to serve as an example that glorifies God. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, James Bryan. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Sherry Dorsey; Debi Wells and husband, Wes; Donna Pacheco and husband, Daniel; and Lisa Bray and husband, Bryan, all of the Waco area; thirteen grandchildren: Stephanie, Nick, and Kelton Dorsey; Lindsey and Carter Wells; Tyler Baldwin, Jenna, Dylan and Kyla Pacheco; Ashley, Amber, Mayson and Kendyl Bray. He is also survived by two brothers, Louis Sims and wife, Gwen, and Dr. James Sims; and a sister, Lucy Bieberdorf and husband, Paul. A special thanks to the staff at St. Catherine’s Rehab for all their love and support. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Habitat for Humanity.
