Robert Compton August 21, 1933 – February 3, 2006 Robert Compton passed away Friday, February 3, 2006 at St. Catherine's Center . He was dearly loved by family and many others. Services will be at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at Lake Shore Drive Church of Christ with the ministers Paul Shero and Ernie Christie officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Monday, February 6, 2006 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Robert was born August 21, 1933 in Edroy, San Patricio County, TX and was adopted by H.H. Jake Compton and Laura Adaline Smith. He was raised in Odem, TX, where he was taught to farm by his father. As a young man, he served his country in the Marines and later as a Civil Air Patrol Pilot. In 1953, he married Sue DeShazo. They spent 52 wonderful years together, which was not nearly long enough. Robert was a member of Lake Shore Drive Church of Christ in Waco. He served 2 years as a missionary in Malawi, Africa with his family. He also served as a preacher training school instructor in Niagara Falls, Canada for 5 years. A man of many adventures, Robert enjoyed archery, hunting, sailing, flying, inventing and sky diving. He was a member of the British Sub-Aqua Club in Blantyre Malawi, Africa and the San Angelo Archery Club. He is survived by his wife, Sue Compton; sons, James Robert Compton and Paul Henry Compton and wife, Karen; granddaughters, Valerie Janice, Valene Janell and Valaina Janette Compton. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry Horace Compton and Laura Adaline Compton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Medina Children’s Home, 21300 State Highway 16 North, Medina, TX 78055.
