Robert D. Abel, Jr. January 11, 1925 - January 1, 2012 Robert Downman Abel, Jr. of Waco passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012, at Ridgecrest Retirement and Health Care. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 5, at Waco Memorial Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Richard Roland officiating. Entombment will follow. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m.Thursday, January 5, at Waco Memorial Mausoleum Chapel. Robert was born January 11, 1925 in Waco, Texas to Robert and Lucile Abel, Sr. He was a loving and devoted husband and grandfather, enjoyed a successful real estate career with his wife Shirley in Houston, Texas then retired to Waco in 1997. Both were active in the Big Band Dance Club and the organization of several Waco High reunions. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jean Abel; parents, Robert and Lucile Abel; sister, Betty Porter. He is survived by son, Tom Abel and wife Laura, Pflugerville, TX; daughter, Terry Lynn Abel, Houston, TX; one sister, Laura Jane Ruby, Tyler, TX; two grandchildren, Hunter Riley Abel and Lauren Nicole Abel, Pflugerville, TX and several nieces and nephews.
