Robert "Gene" Stone

February 11, 1955 — April 28, 2017

Robert “Gene” Stone of Hewitt passed away Friday, April 28, 2017 after a long courageous fight with cancer, peacefully going to be with the Lord, surrounded by family and friends at his residence. Services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, May 1 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey with the Rev. Doug Blackford officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday, April 30 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Gene was born February 11, 1955 in Waco, Texas to Walter and Mary Stone. He attended the China Spring and Robinson schools. Gene was a tile setter and foreman for 45 years at McLennan County Tile. He married the love of his life Janice Scoggins on August 25, 1979. Gene was quite the story teller to his family and friends, whom he loved very much. He liked to travel and particularly enjoyed visiting the historical sites of WWII. A John Wayne enthusiast, Gene was a man of many passions, especially for “that Good ole Baylor Line.” If he could plan a party, Gene was doing so. From college bowl games to the Super Bowl, everyone would gather at Gene’s and Janice’s home for a good time. Gene was preceded in death by his father, Walter Stone, his brother-in-law, Milton Gann, and his nephew, Gary Dean Scoggins. He is survived by his wife, Janice; a daughter, Stephanie Cuhna and husband Gary; two grandchildren, William and Jake; his mother, Mary Stone; two brothers, Geary and wife Shelly, Alan and wife Donna; sister, Tish Gann; and numerous nieces and nephews who he was known to as Cool Happy. Special thank you to Jose, Glenn and others from Baylor Scott & White Hospice. Thank you to Dr. Harris and the staff of Texas Oncology. Memorials may be made to the Community Cancer Association or a charity of choice. The family invites you to leave a message or memory on our “Tribute Wall” at www.WHBfamily.com.
