ROBERT STURTEVANT Robert Hunter SturtevantBob, a longtime Waco resident, died Tuesday, November 23, 2004, in Plano. The family invites you to join them in celebrating his life with services at 11:30am Friday, November 26, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Reverend Kyle Monroe Bethke officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial North. Mr. Sturtevant was born October 7, 1921 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. During his career as an aircraft maintenance/engineering officer, Bob saw duty during World War II with the 55th Fighter Group in England and the 357th Fighter Group in England and Germany. Following the war, he was stationed at James Connally AFB in Waco, marrying Mary Ann Powell on March 4, 1950. Military service also included duty with a San Marcos AFB unit in Texas; the 3rd Bomber Group in Korea; the 2nd Bomber Wing in Georgia; the Strategic Air Command Headquarters in Nebraska; and the 1st Missile Division Headquarters at Vandenberg AFB, California. Bob retired from the Air Force with the rank of major in December of 1963, after which he owned and operated Vant Industries, a custom manufacturer of wood products, in Waco for 20 years. His civic service positions included president and treasurer of the Northwest Waco Lions Club, life member of the Texas Lions League for Crippled Children, president of the Lake Air Minor Baseball League, and president of the Central Texas Bridge Association-Unit 233. His church responsibilities at Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit included senior warden, junior warden, choir director, and lay reader. Survivors include wife, Mary Ann Sturtevant, daughter, Kay Bethke of Sacramento, California, son, Rob Sturtevant of Plano, and grandchildren, Kyle Monroe Bethke, Todd Hunter Bethke, Kaylin Ann Sturtevant, and Mark Hunter Sturtevant; sisters, Frances Greiner-Crabtree of Mount Joy, Pennsylvania and Grace Martner of Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Memorials may be sent to the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit Christian Growth Trust Fund.
