Robert I. Mcbride

Robert I. McBride, age 100, of Chalk Bluff, died Thursday, August 26, 2004 at a local hospital. Services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, August 31 at Chalk Bluff Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Jackson and Rev. Darrell Waite officiating. Burial will follow at Moore Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, August 29 from 4-6 pm at the funeral home. Mr. McBride was born March 9, 1904 in Chalk Bluff to J.C. and Nannie Cox Hill McBride. He lived all of his life in the Chalk Bluff Community where he farmed. He married Mildred Cowan December 10, 1929, she preceded him in death December 19, 1993. Mr. McBride was a lifetime member of Chalk Bluff Baptist Church. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1939 and had also served as a Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. He not only served his lifetime church with his time and talents, he also generously donated his money. In 1995 as the church was out-growing its present facilities, a new educational building was built and is named The Robert and Mildred McBride Educational Building in honor of their faithful support of their church. Although he and his wife never had any children, Mr. McBride always loved children. “The kids in the neighborhood were all his children.” Mr. McBride is survived by his niece Helen M. Carpenter and husband Buddy of Waco; two great nephews, John L. Carpenter of San Francisco, CA and James R. Carpenter of Lewes, DE and their families. Pallbearers will be Bob McKamie, Tom Thaggart, John Larpenter, Max Weaver, Randy Brassil, Bill Proctor, Terry Stanford and Everett Rayburn. Honorary pallbearers will be Owen Kendrick, Wallace Hand, Buddy Carpenter and Walton Strickland. Memorials can be made to Chalk Bluff Baptist Church or Charity of Choice.
