Robert Lynn Garrett, 64, passed away at home Tuesday, December 6, 2022.
Services will be Saturday, December 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home with friends and family officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, December 17 at 1:00 pm at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. A reception will follow the service at La Fiesta.
Robert was born in Dallas January 22, 1958, and grew up in Dallas. He graduated from Skyline High School. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a B.S. in Accounting in 1981. He attended the University of Missouri, St Louis, and received a Master of Information Systems in December 1988. He married Karen at her grandmother Leola Pearce’s farm house in Sandusky, Texas, on January 2, 1982. They celebrated their 40th anniversary this year. He worked as computer programmer and an accountant for 34 years before retiring. Robert enjoyed traveling, exploring national parks, cruising with his friends Steve and Laurie, and hiking with Karen. He enjoyed his yearly trips with his friends Tim, Charlie, Brett, and Jay fishing on the coast. Robert was always quick to help Karen with her volunteer activities. He was a master baker for the Project Christmas Spirit bake sale and prepared yearly tax forms for Waco Center for Youth Volunteer Council. Although Karen and Robert did not have children, they did have numerous pets throughout the years including dogs Sherlock (a world class beggar), Comet, and Astra, and a house full of cats.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Claude Edward Garrett; mother, Juanita Louise Garrett (Brown); his two brothers, Claude Edward Garrett, Jr., and Richard Curtis Garrett; and his niece, ChrisAnn Cameron.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Karen Renae Garrett (Pearce); sister and brother-in-law, Terri and Mark Szabo, of Arlington; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and David Burfischer, of Hewitt; uncle-in-law, Craig Behn of Smithville; sister-in-law, Rene Garrett of Grand Prairie; nieces, Clare Szabo, of Austin, and Kathleen Szabo, of Mountain View, California; nephews, David James Burfischer, of Waco, and Richard Curtis Garrett, Jr., of Arizona; and great nephews, Andrew Dornieden, of Oklahoma City, and Jordann Simmons, of Hewitt.
