Robert Rouse Rushing passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 9, 2021, at Providence Hospital. The service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery on Saturday, August 14, at 10 am with Dr. Randall Perry officiating. Bob was born in Waco, Texas. He attended Waco High School where he played baseball and then went on to Texas Tech University. He graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. Bob was an outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing. He particularly enjoyed going to Colombia to fish for peacock bass. He loved to garden and share his bounty with friends and neighbors. He was always a good cook and made an outstanding Pecan Pie! Bob was the consummate entrepreneur having started Shmaltz’s and then owning several convenience stores over the years. Survivors include his sister, Virginia Hoffman, of Houston; nephew, Danny Hoffman; his wife Cheryl, and their daughter,s Kaley and Kendall, of Houston; nephew, Mark Hoffman, and wife Lizabeth, and their children, Jessica, Jared, and Jake of Sugar Land; Cousin Richard Copeland, his wife Theresa, and their children, of San Antonio. Bob had recently said he had lived a great life and had few regrets. He was special!
