Robert Rusling

December 5, 1940 — October 8, 2004

Robert Rusling, age 63, of China Spring passed away Friday, October 8, 2004 at a local hospital. Graveside services will be held Monday, October 11, at Texas State Cemetery in Austin with Dr. Dick Spinn officiating. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, October 10, from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Robert was born and raised in New Port, Rhode Island where he graduated high school and enlisted into the Marines. He served in Underwater Recon in Vietnam. He also attended Santa Monica College and was involved in sporting goods stores in California for many years. He moved to Texas in 1984 after living in Montana and Washington and married his wife Barbara in 1985. He became the 4th son to Barbara’s parents, Ralph and Rosemary Neubert. After retiring from All-State Insurance Company, he was then elected to Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 of McLennan County in 2002, where he worked very hard to make a difference in the community he served. Robert was an avid sportsman who loved the outdoors, especially sailing. He had a passion for restoring vintage trucks with his friends in the H.O.T Muscle Car Club. He loved his grandchildren, his yellow labs, Sandy and Beaver and enjoyed taking care of all of his animals and working in the garden. He will be truly missed by his family, friends and the community he served. Survivors include his wife, Barbara of China Spring, father-in-law, Ralph Neubert; mother-in-law, Rosemary Neubert; sons, Michael Rusling and wife Heather and their children, Austin, Adam and Alex of Bellingham, WA, Keith Wieser and wife Kathryn and their children, Ryan, Jakob and Joshua of Dallas, Steve Wieser and his son Lukas of Houston, and Eric Wieser of Arlington; sister, Ruth Kiker of New Port, RI; one niece and one nephew; extended family, Andres Ceballos and wife Bertha and children David, Diana and Andrea. Honorary Pallbearers will be Peter Torres, Dave Brown, Senator Neil Schuerer, Bob Smith, Ralph Neubert, Andres Ceballos and Lee Basquez. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the McLennan Division of the American Heart Association or T.S.T.C. Regents Circle Scholarship fund.
