Robert Sidney Henry of Calvert, Texas, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016. His graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 1, at Norwood Cemetery in Hearne, Texas, with Dr. Steven Mansen officiating. Bob was born August 18, 1925, in Hearne, Texas, to Claude Pendleton Henry and Lela Ruby (Craig) Henry. He was a fifth generation Texan and proud of his Texas heritage. He was a great-great grandson of Robert Henry, who was among the first group of Anglo settlers in Robertson County in 1829 and a veteran of the battle at San Jacinto. Bob graduated from Hearne High School at the head of his class and entered Texas A&M College in June 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 in the Pacific theater of operations. Returning to Texas A&M after the war, he received his degree in Civil Engineering in January 1948. He moved to Houston and was employed as a design engineer by Metallic Building Company. In August 1949, Bob married Marie Luster, also of Hearne, and they celebrated 63 years together before her death in 2012. In August 1972, Bob left Metallic to form his own company, Robert S. Henry Company. He remained as owner and CEO of the company, engaged in the design, fabrication and erection of steel-framed structures, until selling the company in 2007 at the age of 82. Bob was a registered professional engineer and was responsible for the construction of hundreds of buildings in the Gulf Coast area, while maintaining lifelong ties to his Robertson County roots by raising fine cattle and loving the land. Bob was preceded in death by his younger brother, William Samuel Henry; his parents; and his wife, Marie. He is survived by his older brother, Claude Pendleton Henry, Jr.; two sisters, Sally Henry Johns and husband, Kenneth Johns, and Lela Henry Smith and husband, Robert Smith; three daughters, Sydney Henry Easley and husband, Paul Easley, Susan Henry Warwas and husband, Robert Warwas and Shari McHenry; and two grandchildren, George Easley and Virginia Warwas Chaney and husband, Sean Chaney.
