Robert Sherman Bennett, Sr. September 28, 1927- September 27, 2008 Robert Sherman Bennett, Sr. passed away Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Providence Hospice in Waco. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 30th at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Waco. The Reverend Clifton Mann of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Amarillo and the Reverends Frank Mangum and Chuck Treadwell of St. Paul's Waco will officiate. Born in Oneonta, New York to Floyd and Esther Bennett, Bob lived in Waco and practiced Architecture since 1954. He designed many beautiful homes and buildings in the Waco area over the course of nearly fifty years in practice. Bob served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After discharge from the Navy, he moved from upstate New York to McAllen, Texas where he was a general contractor with his father. He graduated from the School of Architecture at the University of Texas in Austin in 1954. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Texas Society of Architects where he served as trustee of the Society's Insurance Benefit Trust. He was a founding member of the Texas Solar Energy Society. He served on many community boards in Waco including past Board President of Woodland Springs Nursing Home. He served on the Vestry of St. Paul's Episcopal Church as Jr. Warden and the School Board of St. Paul's Episcopal Day School. He was a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and the National Rifle Association. He was an avid outdoorsman who shared many outdoor adventures with his four sons. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Shirley Redington of Schenectady, New York. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancylu Crosthwait Bennett; sons, Robert S. Bennett, Jr. MD, Jamey Bennett and wife Melisa, Clifton Bennett and wife Caroline, and Kenny Bennett and wife Debbie; four grandchildren, Morgan Bennett of New York City, Katherine, Michal, and William Bennett all of Waco; sister-in-law Carol Crosthwait of Waco; three nieces, Gay Grunfeld of San Francisco, Edna Cannata of Dallas, and Nancy Allen of Nashville; two nephews, Phillip Redington of East Poestenkill, New York and John Redington of Port Mansfield, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Day School or Fuzzy Friends Rescue.
