VAUGHAN, ROBERT BENJAMIN Robert Benjamin Vaughan, age 92, died in Waco, Friday, March 26, 2004. He was born March 31, 1911 in Cashmere, Washington, the son of Ben and Dessie Ogan Vaughan. Robert “Bob” married Laurette “Dede” Bantz in 1934 and they raised their children in Washington state, Alaska, and Long Beach, California, where they operated a restaurant for 20 years. In later years, they also lived in Bakersfield and Napa California. They traveled extensively in their retirement, and loved the outdoors, camping and backpacking. After the loss of his wife in 1996, Bob moved to Texas to be near his daughter. Bob studied electronics in college, was a radio announcer and engineer for a number of years, and a dedicated ham radio operator switching in later years, to the internet. He was a member of the Masonic Order for 42 years. Bob leaves his family and friends a legacy of integrity, faith, love, and devotion. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Dede Vaughan. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Christian, of Waco, and his son, Robert C. Vaughan and his wife, Vivian of Santa Cruz, California. A daughter, Marna Jean, died at a young age. He was also predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Peters of Manson, Washington and a grandson John Christian-Vanderbilt of Bonita, California. He has three surviving grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family will scatter his ashes at sea. Memorials may be made to the Masons or Friends for Life or a charity of your choice.
