ROBERT W. MERCER, JR. October 17, 1936 - September 2, 2005 Robert W. Mercer, Jr., 68, of Waco, passed away Friday, September 2, 2005. Masonic service will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, September 7 at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6 – 8 pm, Tuesday, September 6 in the Garden Room at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mr. Mercer was born October 27, 1936 in Malone, TX. to Lillie and R. W. Mercer, Sr. After high school, he served for 4 years in the U.S. Air Force. He joined the Waco Fire Department in 1959, where he worked his way up through the ranks and was appointed Chief in 1983. He retired in 1996. Mr. Mercer was a hunter and outdoorsman and spent many happy weekends at the deer lease with family and friends. He enjoyed many hobbies, including collecting and restoring antique radios and especially Vintage Fords. He also was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Mr. Mercer was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joyce; daughter and son-in law, Jan and Lance Magid; sister-in-law, Bobbye Ficke and her family of West; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Nancy Edmonds of Austin; mother-in-law, Cora Edmonds of Cameron. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Meals on Wheels, the Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children in Houston, or the charity of your choice. Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey
