Ronald Edwin Nelson July 25, 1944 - November 23, 2009 Ronald Edwin Nelson of Woodway passed away Monday, November 23, 2009 after a courageous three year battle with cancer. A Memorial Service will be 12:00 noon, Monday, November 30, at Carleen Bright Arboretum in Woodway. Dress is casual. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, November 29, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Ronald was born on July 25, 1944 in Texarkana, TX to the late George and Alyne Nelson. Ron grew up in Ft. Worth, TX and graduated from Arlington Heights High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University with a degree in fine arts. Ron was in the jewelry business in Waco for many years. He became a teacher and recently retired from teaching art at Cesar Chavez Middle School in Waco. Ron loved the great outdoors and spent many summers with his family in the mountains of Santa Fe, New Mexico, his favorite place. Ron loved to travel and experience new cultures. He was a devoted father and family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Beth Dill Nelson and his son, Andrew Dill Nelson of Waco; his brother, James Nelson, of Waco and several dear cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mission Waco, 1315 N. 15th St, Waco, TX 76707.
