Rosa Lou Edwards Reed July 7, 1920 – March 8, 2006 Rosa Lou Edwards Reed, 85, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at a local nursing facility. A memorial service will be at 10:00 am Saturday, March 11 at Seventh and James Baptist Church in Waco with Dr. Raymond Bailey officiating. A graveside service will be at 5:00 pm at Snyder Cemetery in Snyder, Texas. Visitation will be from 5 to 8:00 pm Friday, March 10 at 10004 Forest View in Woodway. Mrs. Edwards was born July 7, 1920 in Emory, Texas to Issac and Mary Prather. She moved to Snyder, Texas in 1924 and attended schools there. She married L.B. Edwards in 1938. He was a Baptist minister pastoring churches in west Texas, New Mexico and southern California. She served faithfully as a pastor’s wife in his various pastorates. Mrs. Edwards also worked selling cosmetics at Dunlap’s in Odessa, Texas. Reverend and Mrs. Edwards were members of First Baptist Church in Odessa after he retired. Her husband preceded her in death in 1987. In 1999, Mrs. Edwards moved to Waco to live at a retirement residence near her son for health reasons. She met C. L. Reed and they were married in March, 2001. Mr. Reed died the following August. Mrs. Edwards was a devoted member of Seventh and James Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her two husbands; three brothers, William, A.P. and Raymond Prather; one sister, Bertha Davis and one daughter, Patsy Lynn. Survivors include one son, Doyce Edwards of Woodway; one daughter, Sherry Stewart of Greenwood, SC; stepson, Rev. Bill Reed and wife, Marlene of Leeds, Alabama and stepdaughter, Gloria Gately and husband, Steven of San Antonio; four grandchildren, Phillip Edwards and fiancée, Kristin Richards, Natalie Young and husband, Steven, Scott Edwards and John Giles. She is also survived by two sisters, Leona Davis of Las Cruces, NM and Callie Floyd of Sweetwater, TX; one brother, Bob Prather of Midland, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Seventh and James Baptist Church or Compassion Ministries of Waco. The family would like to thank Dr. James Copeland and the staff of Waco Internal Medicine, the staff of Lake Shore Village Health Care Center, Mary Jo Martin and especially the family of Seventh and James Baptist Church.
