Rose L Schmidt

Rose Lane Schmidt, 91, of Waco, died peacefully at home Wednesday, November 23, 2022.


Rose was born March 12, 1931, in Waco, to Edward Barnard Lane and Margaret Kathcart Lane. She was a great-granddaughter of George Barnard and Mary Ross Barnard, early pioneers of Waco Village.


Rose attended Waco schools and Texas Tech University. In 1953, she married William Christopher Schmidt, Jr., and they remained married until his death in 2002. They were members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she served on Saint Margaret’s Guild for many years.


Rose was a member of the Junior League of Waco, Shakespeare Study Club, and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas for 61 years. In 1981, she opened Schmidt’s Stationery, a division of Schmidt Engraving Company, and managed it until it closed in 2007.

She is survived by her daughters, Debra Haddad and husband, Tom of Crawford, Catherine Bradshaw, of Waco and Ellen Schmidt of Dover, Arkansas. Other survivors include numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.


A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 5, at Oakwood Cemetery. A reception will follow the graveside service at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
