Ross Young

March 17, 1938 — March 22, 2021

Ross Young, age 83, went to be with the Lord on March 22, 2021. A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 27, at Waco Memorial Park with a Celebration of Life reception immediately after at The Bosque, 7238 Cedar Rock Parkway, Crawford, Texas. Ross was born in Washington, DC but grew up in the small hamlet of Bernhard’s Bay, New York, on the north shore of Oneida Lake. He joined the US Navy in 1957 and served 23 years as a Seabee, that included two tours in Vietnam. He married Barbara Steadman of Syracuse, NY in 1961. Together, they traveled the world and began a family of what would become five children between them. Although they entered the marriage with the best of intentions, it was less permanent than expected. Later he married JoAnn Miller of Grand Prairie, Texas, and together they raised her three children. Ross worked for Arlington Independent School District before retiring completely. He was an avid runner, prolific writer and life-long learner with a new book of interest always at his side. He loved a good joke and a warm hug. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Inez and Arthur Young of Bernhard’s Bay; wife, JoAnn Young of Venus, Texas; brother, Gary Young of Denton, Texas; and grandson, Patrick McCarthy of Camarillo, California. Survivors include Barbara Westerhouse of Eustis, Florida; children, Rebecca Brewer and Gary of Crawford, Scott Young and Christina of Tavares, Florida, Kristi Dossett and John of Owensboro, Kentucky, Matthew Young of Eustis, and Marshall Young of Post Falls, Idaho, Wendy and Tony Spalding of Springtown, Texas, Kenneth and Mikki Miller of Grand Prairie, Benjamin Miller of Haslet, Texas; grandchildren, Sara Holloway of Crawford, Jessica Brewer of Denver, Colorado, Michael Dossett of Sikeston, Missouri, Becca and Ethan Novak of Hawesville, Kentucky, Kiersten Young of Parma, Ohio, Colben Young of Tavares, Addison Young of Tavares, Brandon Alvey of Ft. Worth, Texas, Jonathan Alvey of Ft. Worth, Sarah Alvey of Ft. Worth and Dana Spaulding of Ft. Worth, and Travis, Cole and Katie Miller of Grand Prairie; and great grandchildren, Caden, Remi, Holton, Coraline, Aiden and Sailor.
