Roy was a Baptist by faith and attended Grace Temple Baptist Church on Bosque Blvd. He had also attended First Baptist Church of Waco and Columbus Avenue Baptist Church where he was baptized in October 1982. Roy was born January 28, 1934, in Belton, TX, to Charlie and Ruby Faye (McDonald) Belcher. Roy was a graduate of Waco High Class of 1952. He attended Baylor University earning a Bachelor’s of Accounting Degree. He then served 3 years in the U.S. Army in the Medical Core as a Lab Tech in the Blood Bank spending most of that time in Munich, Germany. After serving in the U.S. Army he returned to Waco to marry the love of his life, Martha Ann Pool, whom he met at Baylor during his sophomore year. He often told the story of “the most beautiful woman I had ever seen was walking towards me in Waco Hall and sat beside me. She spoke to me as no other girl ever had. I knew that day I wanted to marry her.” And he did. They married April 30,1960 and were married 51 years until her death in May 2011. They had no children of their own but he loved kids… and cats. Although Roy worked many places his most prevalent was Texas State Technical Institute (now College) for 30 years in the business office. He also worked for many years delivering phone books and knew every part of Waco. He loved people and everyone he met loved him. Roy and Martha Ann were members of many organizations including Eastern Star, Masonic Grand Lodge, Baylor Club, and Gideons. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his sister, Doris Evelyn (Belcher) Pade; numerous uncles, aunts and a few cousins; also his beloved cat of 16 years, Baxter. Those left to cherish memories of his stories and wit include cousin and caregiver D’Ann Martin; nephew, Gerald Pade of Anacortes, Washington; niece, Sabina Pade of Baltimore, Maryland; two aunts, Evelyn McDonald of Hewitt and Dorothy McDonald of Belton; long-time friends, Doris West, Carol Vaughn, Joe Tom McMahon, Ben Bullard and Joe Cline; along with many cousins too numerous to name. Special Thanks are expressed to his cousin, Bill Sawyer for visiting often; Janet and Stephen Neill; Seth, Ty, Cody and Brittney, Melynda and Steve Ash; Kandace Martin and Michael Chang; Michelle, Chasity (Hop-a-long), Justin, Caleb, and Jayden Reed; Crystal and Lane Koller for always being available for repairs, removing carpet, computer issues, A/C installations or just to make sure he had things he needed. Special appreciation is also expressed to the nurses and doctors on the Ascension Providence COVID floor for the incredible compassionate care you give every day. Memorials may be made to Grace Temple Baptist Church. The family invites you to leave a message or memory on our "Tribute Wall" at www.WHBfamily.com.
