Roy Howard, Jr., 87, of Waco passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2007 at Hillcrest Hospital. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, at Waco Memorial Park with Rev. David Shuttlesworth officiating. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Monday, February 19, 2007 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Roy was born October 27, 1919 in Laclede, MO to Roy Sr. and Minnie Bloss Howard. He graduated from Sumner High School in Missouri and attended the University of Alabama. Col. Howard served 23 years as a pilot in the US Air Force for which he received numerous commendations for his skill and dedication. He retired in 1966 as command pilot with the Strategic Air Command. After retiring he owned and operated a small business and was employed with Sears for several years. He married Mary Haynes in 1945. His proudest accomplishment was being a devoted husband and father of three children. He is survived by his wife, Mary of 62 years; son, Ronald H. Howard and wife, Becky of Houston; daughter, Terry McCarthy and husband, Brent of Katy; daughter, Gay Mohan and husband, Leo of Palestine, TX.; brother, Jerry Howard and wife, Mickey of Carrollton, MO; 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Hillcrest Hospital 8th floor and Surgical ICU nursing staff, Dr. Mark Tullos and nurse practitioner, Debra K. Ucci for their exceptional care of our loved one.
