Roy J. Maggard April 13, 1921- December 18, 2008 Roy Maggard, 87, of Waco passed away Thursday, December 18, 2008. A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 20, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. Burial with full military honors will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, December 19, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Roy was born in Burns, Kansas, to Roy and Olive Maggard. He graduated from high school in Sedalia, Missouri. Following high school he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force. During his air force career he flew combat missions during WWII. He was shot down over Germany and spent 13 months as a POW. He also served during the Korean War and remained on active duty until his retirement in 1961. For more than 20 years following his retirement from military service he was self-employed as a bookkeeper for small businesses. Roy was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Gertrude and Roberta; and brother, Marion. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Maggard; two sons, Kenneth Maggard and wife, Judy, of Waco; and Steve Maggard and wife, Lynne, of Dallas; grandchildren, Scott Maggard of Dallas and wife, Lauren; Chris Maggard and wife, Keri, of Keller; Sean Maggard of Los Angeles, California; Chad Maggard of Dallas; and Lauren Cutshaw and her husband, Matthew; and five great-grandchildren, Seth, Peyton, Aaron, Ethan and John.
