Roy Lee Hooper June 2, 1925 – January 20, 2007 Roy Lee Hooper, 81, of Waco transcended the burdens of his earthly body Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Woodland Springs Nursing Home after a year-long brave battle with brain cancer. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 27 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Dr. Brian Pendleton officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 26 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Roy was born June 3, 1925 in Lorena, Texas to Jesse Claud Hooper and Eva Kate Anderson Hooper. Roy served in the U.S. Navy before attending business colleges and working at James Connally Air Force Base. He then began a long career in building management with the Waco V.A. Medical Center. He was a general handyman who could fix anything and especially enjoyed repairing lawnmowers. Roy was a hard worker and an excellent provider for his family. He married Doris Louise Bremer in 1952 and was a devoted husband until her passing in 1985. He was an avid supporter of his daughter, Celia’s long little league softball career, serving as manager for several teams. He enjoyed country western dancing, western books and his guitar. He especially loved the original Lonesome Dove. Roy was devoted to his wife’s parents and was especially supportive to her father in his last nine years at the farm. Roy was a very social person who was loved by all who cared for him during his five-month stay at the nursing home. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and brothers: Will, Harley, Tom and Bob. He is survived by daughter, Celia L. Hooper of Waco, adopted daughter, Kim Miller of Chilton, several nieces, nephews, cousins, four granddogs and one grandcat. Pallbearers are Jerry Hooper, Ron Hooper, David Miller, Mike Redding, Punkin Redding, Jennings Nehring and Thomas Turner. Honorary pallbearers are Felipe Sanchez, J.B. Blackstock and Jack Walker. Memorial donations may be made to the Waco Humane Society-Animal Shelter, Southern Care Hospice, Meals On Wheels or Lake Air Little League Girls Softball.
