Roy McGlasson Taylor, III October 16, 1946 - September 21, 2014 Roy McGlasson Taylor, III, 67, of Waco passed away Sunday, September 21, 2014, at his residence. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 3, at Austin Avenue United Methodist Church with Pastor Tim Jarrell officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church following the service. Roy was born October 16, 1946, in Austin, Texas, to Mary Nell and Roy M. Taylor, Jr. He moved to Waco in 1961, after the death of his parents, and lived with his aunt and uncle, Litta and Hump Manning. Roy graduated from Richfield High School in 1965, where he was Captain of the football team and received All-Zone and Super-Centex honors. He attended Rice University on a football scholarship his freshman year, then transferred to the University of Texas in Austin and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1968, he married Susan Gervig and moved back to Waco. Roy enjoyed vacations with family and friends at Lake McQueeney and at the beach in Galveston, waterskiing and boating on Lake Waco, dove hunting, playing bridge, fishing at the coast and spending time at Sky Ranch with his brother, Paul. He loved his cats, especially his beloved Alfie, and cheering for the Texas Longhorns. He was an avid reader of historical literature. He volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and once worked in St. Croix building houses. Roy sold insurance early in his career, then worked for L.L. Sams. Later in life, he proudly taught in Waco public schools, primarily at G. W. Carver Middle School. Roy was a member of Austin Avenue United Methodist Church in Waco. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Nell Marek and Roy M. Taylor, Jr.; and his aunt and uncle, Elizabeth "Litta" and James "Hump" Manning. He is survived by his daughter, Joan Felton and husband, Mark, and his son, David Taylor and wife, Meghan, both of Waco; grandchildren, Thomas "Boots" Felton, Taylor Felton, and Georgia Taylor; and brother, Paul Taylor of Spicewood, Texas. Honorary pallbearers are Tom Bond, Jim Crow, John Griffis, Walker Harman, Jim Hurst, Darnell Losak, Lyndon Olson, Jr., and John Willingham. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
