Ruby Floyd Gorman was called by the Lord from her earthly home at “Lucy’s Loving Home Care” in Axtell, Texas, to her Heavenly home on Sept. 19, 2016. Ruby was born Feb. 22, 1922, one of seven children to parents Robert Floyd and Myrtie Mae Cooper of Quinton, Oklahoma. Growing up during the Depression, Ruby’s family didn’t have much, but they had a lot of love. Her family moved from Quinton to Stinnett, Texas, where her father found a job as a guard at a Carbon Black plant and where Ruby’s outgoing personality found its outlet as a drum majorette at Stinnett High School. Soon thereafter, Ruby fell in love with and married Jack Watson “Nick” Nicholson. After a few years, Ruby and Nick were blessed with the birth of son, Michael, who brought great joy and pride to Ruby. At the age of 46, Ruby and Nick adopted their niece, Gail, at the age of five, who in turn served faithfully, caring for her “mom” until Ruby’s final day. Shortly after adopting Gail, Ruby’s husband, Nick, passed away. Ruby found herself single again with a small child. Ruby poured herself into loving her family and into her love of children, which found its expression in her work teaching Kindergarten, music and art at Saint Andrews Episcopal School in Amarillo, where she was also an active member. Ruby continued teaching until she found the second love of her life, Robert (Bob) Gorman, whom she married in 1974. Bob brought an amazing addition to Ruby’s family with his three adult children, Bob Jr., Bill, and Betty and each of their families. Bob and Ruby moved to Junction, Texas, in 1978 where they enjoyed life on their beautiful ranch on the banks of the Llano River. There, they were active in the First Baptist Church, dinner clubs (Ruby was an “Iron Chef” in the kitchen) and entertaining grandchildren on “The Ranch”. In the late 1980s, they moved to San Antonio where they lived until Bob went home to the Lord. In later years, Ruby moved to Waco, to be near Gail. While she was still able, Ruby was active in her local church in Waco (Meadowbrook Baptist Church). Ruby brought life and joy to everyone she met. You couldn’t help but love her. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; her husbands, Nick and Bob; and son, Bob Gorman, Jr. She is survived by her son, Mike Nicholson and wife, Ann; daughter, Gail and husband, Scott Jenkins; son, Bill Gorman and wife, Nancy; daughter, Betty and husband, Bruce Moilan; grandchildren, PJ and wife, Heidi Fristoe, Chrissie and husband, Steven Dyer, Ashleigh and husband, Jeff Henson, Tate and wife, April Gorman, Drew and wife, Amanda Moilan, Blake and wife, Cindy Moilan, Holly and husband, Travis Matthews, and John Mark Jenkins; along with numerous great-grandchildren. There will be a visitation at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 22, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 23, at 11:00 a.m., at Meadowbrook Baptist Church, 1207 N. Old Robinson Road, Robinson, Texas. Interment will be held Monday, Sept. 26, at 9:30 a.m., at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Ruby Gorman to Brookhaven Youth Ranch (a 501c3 non-profit), 5467 Rogers Hill Road, West TX 76691, where Ruby, along with her daughter, Gail, participated in the ministry of “Journey To Brookhaven,” an outreach to the young men of Brookhaven.
