Ruby L. Mathews

Ruby L. Mathews October 6, 1917 - February 1, 2016 Ruby L. Mathews of Waco passed away Monday, February 1, 2016. Her graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 4, at Robinson Cemetery. Ruby was born October 6, 1917, in Rosenthal, Texas, to Herman Hahn and Annie Wornat Hahn. She attended school at Rosenthal, Texas, and graduated from Waco High School in 1935. She also attended and graduated from National School of Business in Waco and worked many years as a typist for several Waco businesses. She married Melvin E. Mathews in 1937, in Bruceville, Texas. Melvin died in January 1991. She had one sister, Esther Louise Hahn Mathews, who died in 1985. Interestingly, brothers, Melvin and Leland Mathews married sisters, Ruby and Esther Hahn, all of whom grew up in the Levi and Bruceville area. Ruby's hobbies were making quilts, scrapbooks and keeping family photograph albums. She assembled a library of books on various subjects that she enjoyed reading about. She also was fond of the several cats she kept at home. Survivors include one son, Ronald Wayne Mathews and wife, Skye (Kathy) Mathews, of Robinson, Texas; three grandchildren, Duane Mathews and wife, Pam, Ginger Mathews Scott and husband, Jeff, and Shawn Mathews, all of Austin, Texas.
