Ruby Starcher

February 2, 1949 — February 27, 2022

Ruby Jean Starcher, 73, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at home surrounded by her husband, daughters, grandchildren, and sister. Memorial services will be Saturday, March 5, at 2:30 p.m. at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home in Waco. Visitation will be Friday, March 4, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., also at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Ruby was born February 2, 1949, in Dallas, Texas, to Elvin and Alice Mitchell. She was one of 12 children born to Elvin and Alice. Despite the size of the family, they were all very close growing up. She spent her early years in Lone Oak, Texas. When she was a young teenager, her family moved to West Covina, California, where she attended junior high and high school. She graduated from South Hills High School in 1968, where she was a baton twirler in the drill team. After high school, Ruby began working for the U.S. Postal Service. While living in California, she met her husband and love of her life, Tom. They were married in 1974. Ruby and Tom had a daughter, Krystal, and shortly after moved to Streetman, Texas, to be close to her parents. Their daughter Jennifer was born a year later. She spent 40 years of her life residing in Corsicana. Ruby continued her career at the Corsicana Post Office for several years. She also worked for Navarro County MHMR and Navarro Regional Hospital. After retiring, Ruby and Tom moved to Waco to be close to their daughters and grandchildren. She was a devoted and loving wife, mom, and grandma. Her children and grandchildren were her world. Ruby loved Jesus and looked forward to conversations with people about the Bible. Her faith was immeasurable. Her husband, daughters, and grandchildren will miss her terribly, but know she is celebrating in Heaven. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Elvin Mitchell and Alice Allbritton Mitchell; as well as her sisters, Margaret Carter, Velma Pearl Hathcox; and brothers, Paul Ray Mitchell, David Mitchell, and Donald Mitchell. She was also preceded in death by her nephew, Kenneth Carter.
