Ruby Wells

October 20, 1928 — January 20, 2023

Ruby Quiram Wells, 94, slipped peacefully into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday, January 20,2023 at Heartis Senior Living with her daughter by her side.  Services will be Wednesday, January 25th at 11 a.m. at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday, January 24, from 5-8 p.m. at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home.


Ruby was born on Waco’s “Bell’s Hill” to Helmut G. Quiram Sr. and Thusnelda Neugebauer Quiram on October 20, 1928, the sixth of eight children.  She grew up Lutheran and attended St. Mark’s Lutheran School and graduated from Waco High School in 1946.


She and Charles Floyd “Bud” Wells Jr. married in Waco on November 27, 1948 and to that union were born Charles Floyd Wells III, Ann Marie Wells Harder, and Edwin Rush Wells. A devout follower of Christ, she loved her Lord fervently as well as her family. Gardening and caring for her collection of cats were special joys to her.   For twenty-two years, Ruby also saw to the needs of Baylor University students while working in the Registrar’s office at Pat Neff Hall.   December 4, 1994, her beloved Bud passed away.

Ruby began attending Highland Baptist Church and loved her fellow Naomi Group members.


Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Edwin, as well as five of her siblings:  Caroline Quiram, Anna Fitch, Sophie Crowley, Helmut Quiram Jr., and Theresa Dum.


Left to cherish her memory are Charles and Jeanne Wells, Ann and Mike Harder, Sharon Wells, and her sister Helen Rose Quiram, brother Leonard Quiram and wife Barbara.  Her grandchildren are Adam Wells Harder and wife Kendal, Joel William Harder and wife Donelle, Evan Michael Harder, Charles F. Wells IV, Brandon Wells, Leah Wells Pasteka and husband, Derek, and Seth Wells and wife Halie, as well as great-grandchildren Charles F. Wells V “C.J.”,  Philece and Farrow Harder, Ruby Harder, Colby and Blake Pasteka and Julian and Olive Adkins.


Memorials may be made to Highland Baptist Church Senior Adult Ministry, The Waco Symphony Association, or the charity of your choice.
